OK so what does sculpture have to do with airbrushing. Just as drawing is VITAL to airbrushing those who can't draw a straight line with a ruler need to start somewhere. Understanding each component of a piece of art is crucial in creating an overall work of art. To create something with nothing to use as a reference poses a challenge to anyone. As a way of teaching the basic drawing techniques I have found my students get a full and clear picture of what they would like to paint using sculpture as the building blocks in the art they seek to learn. Hand forming each piece of the big picture allows them to begin seeing depth. I have found if I can't visualize a certain aspect in something I airbrush being able to break down the complete picture into the basic shapes and how they appear when looked at from a different perspective helps me tremendously.
As part of my airbrush class each student may select a different class that ties into airbrushing. Those who struggle with drawing are encouraged to take this class, it will give you a better understanding of art and see the details we overlook each day. It also will give you a chance to learn how to sculpt.
